These days lab coats are not only made available for adults in health fields and factories but for children as well. A few decades back, you wouldn’t find lab coats that come in kids’ sizes. But now, they are widely sold in department stores and online shops. They also come in traditional white, colored, printed or tie-dyed designs!

Thinking of another way to use kids lab coat? Then a mad scientist birthday party is a good time to take it out of the closet! Science is a cool subject that never fails to fascinate and excite kids. If your child’s birthday is coming soon, you can plan a science-themed party to spark interest in this subject through fun and wacky activities. You can make it even more interesting by putting together a mad scientist party theme.
With some creative planning, you can create a successful science-themed birthday party without going crazy over it. Here are some suggestions that will help you carry on with this exciting project.
First, you have to come up with an invitation that goes with the theme. You can use a plain white cardboard and cut it to resemble a kids lab coat. Simply write the child’s name on one side and write the details of the party using white crayon on the other side. You can give instructions to the parents on how to reveal the hidden message on the invitation by using a different-colored crayon to shade on it or paint over it using watercolor. Or, you can buy cheap plastic test tubes and simply insert a rolled piece of paper with the party details on it.
For the costume, you may opt for a costume party wherein the attendees are required to come in kids lab coat as mad scientists. To make it even more fun and to encourage them to comply, let them know that cool prizes await the child who has the best interpretation of a mad scientist. For decorations, use glass jars, beakers and more test tubes with colored water in it to decorate a portion of your house that will serve as the lab area. Use colored papers to make up signs, question marks, science and math formulas and other symbols related to science. You may also set the mood by changing your plain light bulbs into colored ones. Don’t forget to put up a big chalkboard or whiteboard with the experiment instructions written on it. Just look up some simple science experiments that you can use as party activities. Some of the easy ones are fizzy test tubes with colored water, baking soda and vinegar. You may also mix up homemade goo by using water, flour and food coloring. And if you want to make some safe “explosions,” you can make use of soda and fill it up with Mentos candies.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to planning a fun and exciting mad scientist birthday party. Just don’t forget to fill the kids’ tummies with yummy treats that go with the theme like Pop Rocks, gummy worms, sandwiches, chips, Jell-O jigglers, fruits and other “science-y” finger foods that you can arrange attractively.
